Chisum Quarry, Gore Oklahoma

The Chisum quarry was dug to build an adjacent lock on the the Arkansas River. It has been abandoned for many years and is a popular destination for geology classes and rockhounds because of its abundant macro fauna. The rocks are Middle Penn, Morrow Series, McCulley Fm (open marine carbonate).

For a strat column see the gallery associated with this text block.

Notable are the abundance of the blastoid Pentremites rusticus. For a fasinating discussion how male and female blastoids are identified see the guidebook.
