Ø  Learn basic properties of minerals

Ø  Begin your own mineral collection

Ø  Learn field methods and safety

Ø  Learn uses of minerals

Ø  Learn what a fossil is

 

Location:      Houston Gem and Mineral Show

Humble Civic Center

8233 Will Clayton Parkway (½ mile east of Hwy 59)

Humble, Texas                        (Free Parking!)

 

Admission tickets available at the door: $7 adults, $4 students with ID, children under 12 free

·         Scout badge program free with show admission

·         Minerals and fossils for collections may be purchased at show

·         RSVP required—first come, first served (limited to 50 Scouts per session)

·         Program is designed for Webelos and above, Junior Girl Scouts and above

Saturday Sessions: Every hour, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.

Sunday Sessions: Every hour, 11 a.m.–3 p.m.

v  Classes last about 2–3 hours, allow extra time for visiting the show

v  Program consists of 8 stations, many with different options for various badge types

v  Instruction includes presentations, activities, and access to materials and experts at show

v  Please bring a bag to hold specimens and a pencil for writing
