Although starting from a casual gathering of avid artisans, the Beading Section was officially recognized at the December 2006 Board meeting, with the first meeting being held January 24th, 2007. Meetings are held on the second Saturday of the month at 1:30 p.m.
Bead work predates written history, examples of which have been found in most cultures and continents. Beads and bead work examples have been found in many archeological digs. Visit just about any natural history museum, most have beads and/or bead work in their displays.
While the official name is the Beading Section, we do a lot more than just put beads on a string. Drawing on patterns from modern magazines, Internet, historical publications, and even our imaginations, we create both functional and decorative items.
Our meetings are both productive and social. Projects are chosen by the group periodically, based on patterns that we’d like to learn and then worked on in a supportive setting. We strive to promote education and camaraderie, learning new skills while having fun at the same time.
All members are welcome–no invitation required. In many cases we provide all supplies. Just grab a chair, and while away a few hours.
